THE HERO

My sister in Virginia was hit and knocked to the ground by a huge cement truck, as she carried her groceries across the street. She was badly bruised and traumatized. She would have been as squashed as her sausages were had it not been for a fellow-pedestrian, who ran into the street, waving to get the driver’s attention, stopping him just in time. The driver never even saw her. He heard the screams but thought it was “just a cat.” To my sister, that pedestrian is a hero. She would not be alive today if it were not for his quick thinking, fast action, and caring enough to put himself at risk.

You don’t have to wear a cape or fly through the air to be a hero. All you need is a heart that cares and to be available at someone’s time of need—even if all you have to offer is a shoulder. “When did we see You sick or in prison and go to visit You?' The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me.” (Matthew 25:39, 40 NIV)
